What does a safari day look like?

“These activities are aimed at giving you the best chance to admire the incredible wildlife of Botswana in its natural environment”

What does a safari day look like? “Knock, knock, wake-up call”. 6:00 AM. Whether you are staying in the Okavango Delta, the Makgadikgadi salt pans, the vast Kalahari, or Chobe National Park, almost every safari day in Botswana starts early. The first rays of sunlight break through on the horizon and you are gently awakened by the guide. This is the moment the wilderness comes alive. Around 6:30 AM, you are expected for breakfast, a quick meal, and then off into nature in search of the adventure that lies ahead. So that answers the question: What does a safari day look like?

After breakfast, your day safari in Botswana truly begins. Depending on your location, you can choose an exciting game drive through the sprawling savannahs, a leisurely boat cruise along the Chobe River, an immersive walking safari over the floodplains of the Okavango Delta, or a serene mokoro trip. A canoe journey where you glide silently through the crystal-clear channels of the Okavango Delta. These activities are aimed at giving you the best chance to witness the incredible wildlife of Botswana in its natural setting.

During your adventure, you take a break at a picturesque spot, perhaps under an imposing baobab or by a serene lagoon, where you enjoy a steaming cup of coffee with local delicacies while taking in the beauty of the surroundings. Around 11:00 AM, you return to the lodge, reflecting on all the impressions, ranging from a pride of lions to a herd of elephants heading to the river.

Afternoon: relaxation and reflection
Between 11:30 AM and 12:00 PM, brunch or lunch is served, a mix of local flavors and international dishes. Then there is time for yourself. This is the time to unwind from all the impressions of the Botswana wilderness, whether you relax by the pool, read a book with the sounds of the bush in the background, or simply take a siesta to prepare for the next activity.

“This is the moment to experience the tranquility of the African wilderness!”

Late Afternoon and Evening: The Golden Hours
Around 3:30 PM, high tea is served. As the heat starts to decrease, you set off for the afternoon activity, a new game drive or a boat cruise offering another perspective as the light softens. During this trip, you stop at a picturesque location for a sundowner, a beloved safari tradition in Botswana. As the sun sets over the Okavango Delta or the Chobe River and the sky turns shades of gold, orange, and pink, you enjoy a cold drink, toasting to the day’s discoveries.

You usually return to camp between 7:00 and 7:30 PM, just in time to see the stars come out in the sky. The evening often begins with a drink by the campfire, where you share stories with fellow travelers. Then comes dinner, an elaborate meal that you have earned after such a beautiful day.

Night: The Sounds of the Bush
After dinner, your bed will tempt you. Safaris are both impressive and exciting, and a good night’s sleep is essential. As you prepare for bed, your guide will escort you to your tent or room. Safety comes first, especially in the lodges, where there are no fences and wildlife roams freely. Under the dark starry sky, the wilderness takes on a different character, and it’s not uncommon to hear the roar of a lion or the howl of a hyena in the distance as you fall asleep. This is just another day in the bush!
