Nina Safari Tales
"With a ball of cotton, a crochet hook, and lots of big smiles, we are creating something great together."
From a crochet hook under a tree to a powerful women’s project in Botswana.
What started as a spontaneous initiative by Nancy (founder of Botswana Specialist) grew into Nina Safari Tales: a social project that empowers women in Botswana. With crochet hooks, cotton, and a lot of patience, the first handmade safari stuffed animals were created beneath the African sun. Now, women from several villages around Maun are crocheting their way to a better future.
Each stuffed animal tells a story.
A zebra with character, an elephant with flair, or a curious monkey. Each animal is unique, lovingly made, and packaged in an African gift bag. 50% of the proceeds go directly to the makers. The other half is invested in new materials, warm meals, and new craft initiatives that allow even more women to unleash their creativity. Nina Safari Tales is not just a souvenir, but a tangible piece of connection.
Each stuffed animal is unique and handmade
Proudly made by women in Botswana
100% locally and socially responsible project
Direct impact: fair incomes and new opportunities
Ordering and pricing
Would you like to buy a unique handmade safari animal and support the project? The crocheted animals cost €35 each (excluding shipping) and can be easily ordered via email. Simply email us your order and let us know which animal you’d like: an elephant, lion, zebra, or monkey.
Each animal is lovingly packaged in a handmade gift bag made from African fabric by women from another project within Nina Safari Tales. The proceeds go directly to the women and support the further development of their creativity, independence, and well-being.
Why this project is so important:
"When I see the women laughing, see their self-confidence grow, and hear how they help each other… then I know it’s not just about plush toys. It’s about pride, ownership, and becoming stronger together."
