Off the beaten track

BEAUTIFUL SELF-DRIVE
ADVENTURE

Time to take the road less travelled! Enjoy wild Botswana for 16 days.

What could be more amazing, more real, rawer and more intense than travelling through the wilderness by yourself? Of course in your own safari-proof 4×4 with rooftop tent. Take the dirt road and discover the real Botswana. The nature, the culture and of course the wild animals. We could spend days talking about an off-road adventure in Botswana. The best part? After a beautiful day of exploring, enjoy the sunset with a cold drink. Pop open the rooftop tent and sleep under the stars of Moremi Game Reserve, Okavango Delta, Savuti and Makgadikgadi.

Day 1 & 2

Welcome to the relaxed safari capital.

Check-in. Take off. Fly and land. Welcome to the first chapter of your safari in Botswana; the safari capital Maun. In this relaxed town in the north of Botswana, you are welcomed by our local colleagues. They take you to a nice B&B, where you can relax after the long trip. Or do you feel like catching your first glimpse of Botswana? Then take a tour through lively Maun with its many restaurants and nice shops. You can then do some shopping and prepare your 4×4 for the adventure ahead. Exciting!

Day 3 - 6

An unforgettable first night under the stars.

The first real travel day. The first kilometres, first dirt roads and first elephants on the road. After a tough day of driving, tonight you will sleep in the bush for the first time in Moremi Game Reserve on the edge of the Delta. Don’t be alarmed: lions, leopards, baboons and even elephants can walk right past your self-erected camp. It’s as if you are camping in a zoo without fences! Early in the morning and later in the afternoon, you will experience fantastic photographic safaris, where a cold beer is not a punishment! Tip: chill out in the warm afternoon and live in the rhythm of nature.

Day 6 - 8

Test your off-road skills in the middle of the wilderness.

Moremi slowly disappears in the rear-view mirror. Hmph, you are now truly alone in the wilderness and have a long and adventurous drive ahead of you to the Khwai River. This is going back to basics. Park your 4×4 under a tree, unfold the rooftop tent and enjoy the wild around you. What animals do you hear at night? During the day, you can go on a game drive through loose sand in search of wildlife. Take a few water crossings and maybe have a flat tyre. That too is safari! There is always someone to help you and tell you where the lions or elephants are. But just in case, before your trip, we will also prep you on how to handle these adventures!

Day 8 - 10

Eye to eye with the Savuti Marsh Pride.

What a good sound that engine makes! Time for another four-hour self-drive to the campsite at Savuti Channel. Don’t forget to enjoy the view. At your base for the next two days, there is a nice little shop where you can buy firewood and cold drinks. Cheers to the Savuti Marsh Pride! Yes, that’s the group of more than 20 lions that you will hopefully be spotting. These are infamous because they have a reputation for hunting both elephants and buffalo. Don’t feel like driving yourself during this safari? We’ll be happy to tell you how to arrange a local guide in Botswana in no time.

Day 10 - 13

Cruise past elephants, hippos and crocodiles.

After a five-hour drive, it’s time to exchange the car for a boat. This is the next chapter of your safari in Botswana. From your campsite on the banks of the Chobe River, you can step straight into the boat and cruise past the river crossing elephants. Be prepared for encounters with hippos and crocodiles too! The next day is devoted to a game drive in search of all the game that Africa has to offer. And that is not all: you will also go on a day trip from Kasane to the world-famous Victoria Falls in Zambia. An extra highlight, guaranteed! Would you like to stay a little longer in Kasane? We will be happy to arrange a fantastic lodge or B&B for you.

Day 13 - 15

Take a Bushman Walk in search of meerkats.

Take a slow drive down to your next adventure: the salt plains of Makgadikgadi. Relax, because you’ll be cruising for about 5 hours on a well-paved road. Also nice to see again. When you arrive at the campsite, it is of course time for a good sundowner. Not too many though, because tomorrow an early meeting with the local meerkat family is on the agenda. The quad safari across the 16,000km2 salt plains is also a must, not to mention the bushman walk. Pure excitement! And if you are lucky, you will also experience the largest zebra migration in the world.

Day 15 - 16

Relive the highlights on the return journey.

Back in town! Today you will make your last self-drive in Botswana, back to Maun. Back to your familiar address with Katja and Peter. The place to recover from all your safari adventures, exciting moments and unforgettable encounters. Perhaps you would like to make a pre-selection of those hundreds of wildlife photos?
