Why we love this area
"The Kalahari makes you slow down. Here, you can truly hear yourself again"

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) is the largest protected area in Botswana and a world of extremes. Here, there are no water channels or mokoros, but red dunes, endless plains, wild emptiness, and shimmering starry nights. The sun is bright, the horizon far, and the silence impressive.
During the rainy season (December–April), the desert turns green and comes alive. Thousands of springboks, gemsboks, and wildebeests migrate across the grassy plains, closely followed by cheetahs and black-maned Kalahari lions. In the dry season (May–October), the Kalahari becomes harsher and quieter, perfect for travelers seeking peace and space.
You can explore the reserve via a mobile safari or as a self-drive in a 4×4, staying at campsites in and around Deception Valley. For more comfort, special lodges at the edges, such as Dinaka Camp, Deception Valley Lodge, and Tau Pan Camp deep in the heart of the reserve, offer unforgettable experiences. Tau Pan even has a sleep-out deck, allowing you to spend the night under the stars in the wilderness. Whether you choose basic or luxury, the experience is always grand.
Best travel time
December to April brings the green season, with migrations, young animals, and predators in action. May to October is the dry period, perfect for long drives, wide vistas, and starry nights. Both seasons offer unique and impressive experiences.

Do you dare to embrace the unknown of the Kalahari?
