Why we love safari in the rocks of Tuli Block
"The Tuli region feels a bit like an outsider of Botswana. And that's what makes it so impressive."

In the extreme southeast of Botswana, where the borders with South Africa and Zimbabwe converge, lies the Tuli Block. Think of it as a narrow strip of land along the Limpopo River, full of rugged rock formations, ancient baobabs, and open plains. This area, with private reserves like Mashatu Game Reserve and Limpopo-Lipadi, offers a completely different safari experience compared to the Delta. Here it’s all about contrasts: rocky terrain, dusty river valleys, wild wilderness, and plenty of wildlife.
Tuli is known for its large herds of elephants, leopards, cheetahs, and impressive elands. You can explore here on classic game drives, but also on foot, by mountain bike or even on horseback. In Mashatu and Limpopo-Lipadi, you will find stylish lodges with professional guides and hardly any other vehicles. The landscape is rugged and empty, which makes every sighting extra special.
This region is also easily accessible from South Africa via Pontdrift or Platjan, making it ideal to combine with a trip to northern Botswana or the Waterberg region in South Africa.
Best travel time
The best time to visit is from May to October, during the dry season. Animals gather by the rivers during this time. In the green season (November – March), it’s warm and greener, with spectacular skies and bird activity.
Rocky, rugged, and totally different from the Delta
Large numbers of leopards and other predators
Exclusive lodges like Mashatu and Limpopo-Lipadi
Versatile safaris: game drive, horseback, or on foot
In the mood for a safari far from the beaten path?
The Tuli Block offers adventure, diversity, and tranquility. Perfect as the beginning or conclusion of your Botswana trip. Or just as a standalone safari adventure. We arrange everything from A to Z. With great pleasure!
